Low-income Renters Fearing The Worst With Sudden Rate Change At Clovis Apartment Complex

I'll be on this. I don't think there's any where to go. I'm sorry. >> My luck, I come down here and
I set up here and everything's going good. And this turns out,
you don't get no boys around here. >> The neighbor about me just moved
out and she's living in a car. So maybe we can do is I have one of my kids take me in.

You don't really wanna do that. I'm too young to be
taken in by by my kids. >> To do this right now in the middle
of a pandemic is criminal to me. My mom's name is June Horton and
she's lived here about 26 years. They said that they were gonna take
her rent from her current rent, which is around 5 98 month up to $1300. She's literally living off $1000 a month. We've been searching ever since we got
this letter to find another place for her that's affordable. But there's 3 to 5 year wait list. So it's impossible. We're in an impossible situation. That would mean all of us having to
pull together as kids to try and take from our own mortgages and
what not to keep her in her place. Otherwise she'd be homeless and I say that
because we're not gonna let her be, but there are a lot of people
here that don't have kids.

It's like throwing a life preserver to
somebody and then you're gonna drown. So what do you do? >> We're talking 23 years,
21 years, 20 years and then suddenly said boom, you got to go and
everybody standing by and saying, yeah, go ahead,
kick these things citizens out. Somebody needs to step up and
get something corrected. [BLANK_AUDIO].
